Violet Mary Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound DStJ (28 May 1889 — 3 January 1965) was an English aristocrat. She was the daughter of an Earl and married twice, first to Lord Charles Petty-Fitzmaurice, and then to John Jacob Astor, 1st Baron Astor of Hever. Astor was the mother of five children, including George Petty-Fitzmaurice, 8th Marquess of Lansdowne and Gavin Astor, 2nd Baron Astor of Hever. ==Biography== Astor was born on 28 May 1889 to Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 4th Earl of Minto and Mary Caroline Grey. On 20 January 1909, she married Lord Charles Petty-Fitzmaurice, the younger son of the Henry Petty-FitzMaurice, 5th Marquess of Lansdowne and Maud Evelyn Hamilton. They had two children: * Mary Margaret Elizabeth Petty-Fitzmaurice (1910–2003) * George Petty-Fitzmaurice, 8th Marquess of Lansdowne (1912–1997). Her husband was killed in action on 30 October 1914 while fighting in World War I. On 28 August 1916 she married John Jacob Astor, 1st Baron Astor of Hever, youngest son of William Waldorf Astor, 1st Viscount Astor and Mary Dahlgren Paul. They had three sons:〔(The Peerage, entry for 1st Lord Astor )〕 * Gavin Astor, 2nd Baron Astor of Hever (born 1 June 1918, died 28 June 1984), married Lady Irene Violet Freesia Janet Augusta Haig, youngest daughter of Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig and Dorothy Maud Vivian, and had five children including John Jacob "Johnny" Astor VIII * Lt Col Hon Hugh Waldorf Astor (born 20 November 1920, died 7 June 1999), married Emily Lucy Kinloch, a niece of Diana Vreeland and had five children. * Hon John Astor (born 26 September 1923, died 27 December 1987), married Diana Kathleen Drummond, a grandniece of Herbert Samuel Holt, and had three children. She died on 3 January 1965 in her villa at Pégomas, near Grasse. Lord Astor on 19 July 1971.
